I love military stories because military men to me are the greatest men (yes, this is a biased opinion). The book beautifully lengthens the very viral and popular speech, which my mama shared with me a while ago, into a book that shares Admiral McRaven’s stories followed by a lesson. The traits of this man are so excellent it makes me want to go back to Egypt and serve the army. For now, it inspired me to not forget to make my bed, which I’ve done every morning after completing this book.
The lessons are simple and can be summarized: start your day with discipline and accomplish a simple task with a standard that resembles excellence, understand that you can’t go through this world alone and exchange support with your men, prove those who doubt you wrong by presenting you can accomplish anything with courage, understand that life has its unfair hardships but don’t allow them to stop you from moving forward, you will face many challenges and failures that you need to take in and let them teach you and strengthen you to prepare for even tougher moments coming your way, push your limits and be daring in life to win while taking calculated and planned risks, don’t let anything or anyone bully you or put fear into you and stand up to it with courage and if it attacks you then fight back no matter how big or scary it is, during your darkest moment you need to reach deep inside yourself and be your very best to pull through it all, radiate and inspire hope amongst your people that leads to chain reaction, and finally, no matter how tough life or a challenge gets, never ever back down or quit.
God Bless all the men of the Egyptian military who continuously sacrifice their lives for our nation to remain the greatest country despite being at the center of every crisis imaginable.
